The diverseness of wildlife in Dubai has to be seen
to be believed. One of the most progressive cities in
the world and home to innumerable marvels of architectural
brilliance, Dubai has not lost touch with nature and
its bounteousness.
In Dubai, wildlife can be found in profusion. Internationally renowned for its assortment of animal and bird life, the United Arab Emirates as a whole is considered to be a topnotch destination for bird watchers.
Dubai is a major stopover for hundreds of species of migratory birds from Europe, Asia and sub-Antarctic regions. Some of the birds to look out for are hoopoes, flamingoes, bee-eaters, kingfishers, Indian Rollers, booted warbler, etc. One of the main hubs of these birds is the Safa Park, one of the must-see places during sightseeing in Dubai.
Dubai is regarded as a great destination for those interested in marine life. Thousands of fishes, big and small thrive in the unblemished waters of the Dubai Creek, a popular tourist attraction of Dubai, and the Arabian Gulf.
When you talk of animal life in Dubai, the only things that come to mind are camels, horses and goats - the traditionally domesticated animals. As far as wildlife in Dubai is concerned, the most well-known animals are desert fox, sand cat and falcons. However, you have to be really lucky to spot them.
As
a result of urbanization and hunting, species like houbara
bustard, striped hyena, caracal and the Arabian Oryx
have become endangered in Dubai. However, stringent
measures by the administration have helped in restoring
of a few of these almost-extinct wildlife species.
Turtles, dugongs, snakes, lizards, etc are the other abundantly found wildlife in Dubai and the UAE at large.
