Dubai Visa and Travel Info

There are no major health concerns or specific vaccinations required for visitors to Dubai. However, you are advised to check the current health warnings prior to your departure.

Arabic is the official language of Dubai, but English, Urdu, Hindi are widely spoken and understood here. Learning the basic Arabic phrases may come in handy.

The Dubai Department of Tourism has established several tourist information centers throughout the city, where you can get maps and brochures offering information on Dubai tourist sites as well as information on public transport, shopping and accommodation.

All international credit cards such as Diners, American Express, MasterCard and Visa are accepted in hotels, shops and other commercial establishments in Dubai. Travelers Cheques are accepted at major establishments.

Exchange your money only from authorized moneychangers or banks in Dubai. As there are no currency restrictions in the UAE, all major world currencies can be exchanged, with several internationally renowned banks and hotels.

Normal business hours in Dubai are from 08:00-13:00 and 16:00-20:00, Saturday to Thursday, with most businesses being closed on Fridays.
Banking hours in Dubai are from 08:00-13:00, Saturday to Wednesday. On Thursdays, banks are open between 08:00-12:00. Friday is a holiday in Dubai.

Dubai is a Muslim state and has several religious and cultural etiquettes that must be observed by visitors. Avoid drinking at public places, rude gestures and public shows of affection. Women should avoid putting on tightly fitting cloths, especially when visiting the rural areas. Visitors should also note that during the holy month of Ramadan, it is illegal to eat, drink or smoke in public.

Most restaurants add a service charge to your bill, but it is likely that none of this charge will reach the waiting staff. You can leave around 10 per cent of the bill in cash to show your appreciation for a good service.

International direct dialing phones and Internet cyber cafes can be found all over the Dubai city, so communication with family and friends back home is not a problem.

Tap water is desalinated and safe for drinking, but drinking bottled mineral water is always good for visitors.
The electricity supplied in Dubai is 220 Volts and 3-pin sockets are available everywhere.
